After joining the firm in 1999 and more than 30 years of service, Schlein has moved away from day-to-day activity effective January of 2025. He remains a shareholder and member of the board.
During his time working with clients, Schlein specialized in counseling companies and individuals under attack by the media, public interest groups, or competitors. He primarily worked with companies and business associations in the financial services, energy, and chemical sectors.
Schlein began his professional career as a campaign consultant conducting opposition research for several campaigns for Congress. In 1983, he began an 11-year career on Capitol Hill, including seven years as press secretary to a U.S. senator. He was the communications director on two winning Senate campaigns and coordinated media activities for candidate surrogates at two national presidential conventions.
Prior to joining Dezenhall Resources, Schlein worked for a Washington, D.C., public relations firm, heading its media outreach services practice and coordinating several public awareness campaigns. He managed media for major events such as the annual Cambridge Energy Research Association conference and the FARM AID concerts. He also coordinated messaging development and surrogate recruitment for two government healthcare programs.
Schlein graduated from the University of Maryland and lives in Washington, D.C. He enjoys off-roading trips through the West and is an accomplished skeet shooter.
